How To: Make Vinyl Record Bowls

This is the third DIY post in my DIY series.

I know lots of people will have some old Vinyl records hiding in their lofts or charity shops have got many of them collecting dust. A few years ago I was watching one of Kirstie Allsopp's crafts series and she showed everyone how to make Vinyl bowls and I've been making them ever since! They are so easy to make and take no time at all, as there are no instructions on how to make this that I could find I thought I'd make a post on how to make Vinyl bowls.

You Will Need

1 or more Vinyl records in any size - These can be found in charity shops if you don't have any
A mug or bowl (Depending on the size of your Vinyl record)
An Oven

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 1 (275 Fahrenheit)
2.  Find a bowl or mug which the middle of your record will fit on
3. Place the middle of your record on the mug or bowl so that it won't fall off
4. Place this into the oven with the side of the record you want in the middle of your bowl facing upwards.
5. Depending on the size of the record depends on how much time the record will take to melt so keep watching every few minutes until it is done. A small record takes around 5 minutes to melt, medium and large records take around 10-15 minutes to melt.
6. Once done it will be hot but if you want quickly mould the shape you want your bowl to be and it is done.

Tips

When the plastic melts tends to make a quite intoxicating smell so open a window and some doors so that your house won't smell as much.
