Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo national park is roughly half way between Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kampala so we stopped here on our way home from Queen Elizabeth. Although the big 5 is not very present in this national park it is beaming with life; in less than 5 minutes of entering the park we saw Zebra and Impala! We also saw the giraffe family and their baby. Giraffes were reintroduced to the park in 2015 to encourage grazing of acacia trees as the habitat was becoming a thicket instead of remaining a savannah area.
One of the amazing things about Lake Mburo is the lack of predators so it's possible to take a walking safari or to get out of your car to see the animals better.

We also chose to do a night drive to see any nocturnal animals. We saw many genet as well as a hyena! It was interesting to see some animals which you can see in the day at night, for example the Zebras were still very active at 9pm. The ranger was very adamant on finding a leopard or hyena so skipped some animals unfortunately, but he was very knowledgeable and had a very good eye for spotting small animals such as genets which move very quickly.

The hyena followed us for about 10 minutes which was scary but very cool
These Impala were sleeping right beside the reception of the ranger lodge when we got back
We saw Warthogs as we waited for our ranger to arrive

Overall I prefered Lake Mburo to Queen Elizabeth because there seemed to be a wider range of animals which were easier to spot and, being able to do a walking safari was a very cool opportunity. Our trip was sadly cut short due to the rain preventing us from driving in the park as we wanted to go down to the lake in the morning but this would have been too dangerous, so we left in the morning rather than afternoon as we had planned.
