Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kasenyi, Uganda ~ Day 1

For Easter weekend we went to Queen Elizabeth national park in South West Uganda on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The park is renowned for being able to see wild lions, especially lions that climb on trees, and occasionally a leopard, as well as many other species of animal.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and after paying the entry fee to the park we decided to go on a 2 hour boat tour of Lake George. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out lots of well camouflaged animals along the way. Below are a few of the animals we saw on our trip.

A Nile Crocodile beside an Egret
A family of Elephants with 2 young calves

A herd of Hippo relaxing harmoniously beside a herd of Water Buffalo.

A Warthog
The boat trip was an amazing thing to do if you are an avid bird watcher or enjoy seeing many different kinds of birds, as there are over 600 species recorded in Queen Elizabeth national park alone!
The bird with the red and black beak is the National bird of Uganda.

These birds are kingfishers and the holes are their nests.
Unfortunately, we were unable to do a night drive as Easter weekend is a popular time to visit this national park so we relaxed ready for a 6am wake up on Saturday.
