Circe by Madeline Miller- Book Review

This is the fifth book that I read during the lockdown period.

"Circe" by Madeline Miller is the beautiful, untold story of Circe, the daughter of Helios, god of the sun. Circe was monumental in helping Odysseus return home from the war but this story starts hundreds of years before then, telling the story of Circe in this historical fiction book.

The story is told from Circe's birth in the hall of the Titan gods and how she is an outcast in their society due to her lack of powers and her supposedly awful sounding voice. In time she falls in love with the mortal Glaucos, which is where she discovers her powers of witch craft and is banished from the hall of gods and left to be exiled on the island of Aiaia. On Aiaia she uncovers her powers and how to harness power from herbs and flowers.

10/10- This story is incredibly told, you feel as though you are there. There are well known tales from Greek mythology from the Minotaur and Prometheus, to lesser known stories such as the creation of the monster Scylla. These stories were told in a way you could easily understand if you had never heard of them be told before. This was such an amazing read and made me want to learn more about Greek mythology.
Circe contains the story of learning how to be free and embrace who you really are, as well as there are subplots of romance and drama. I would recommend this book for all to read.
