The Secret Life of Bees - Movie Review

This is the fifth film that I watched during lockdown.

'The Secret Life of Bees' is a film set during 1964 in South Carolina. The film depicts the story of Lily Owens, a 14 year old girl who escapes her abusive father and travels to Tiburon with her housekeeper, Rosaleen. Tiburon is somewhere that was on the back of a picture of the virgin Mary that her mother had once had, before she died.

In Tiburon she meets the Boatwright sisters who are beekepers, they choose to accomodate Lily and Rosaline letting them work for their stay. As Lily works as a beekeeper she discovers more about the joys of life and love from the Boatwright sisters, the love in a relationship from June, the love of a mother from August, and about the simpler joys in life from May. She learns how to embrace life and finds out more about her mother.

7/10- This film is a beautiful story of discovering oneself and the journey there. The Secret Life of Bees contains drama, a romantic subplot and a joy from having watched the film.
